Happy Chickens Make Delicious Eggs
We have the prettiest and sweetest birds. We raised our first batch of chicks from Murray McMurray, and raised them by hand. When we discovered one morning that one of our hens was actually a rooster, well, we improvised and learned how to work an incubator and raise our new birds from our strong flock.
Now we have over 30 chickens and nine ducks of multiple varieties, including Gold Stars, Black Giants, Ameraucana, Ancona, Sussex, Black Cochin, Black Star, Buttercups, Crevecoeurs, Cuckoo Maran, Egyptian Fayoumis, French Faverolles, Golden Campines, Golden and Lacey Wyandottes, Rhode Island Red, White Crested Black Polish, and more.
All of our hens are hand-raised and pasture-range. They have a large outdoor run where they spend their days running around, flapping, and pecking. At night, they roost in a large, safe coop on perches made from apple tree branches. The chickens are fed organic feed with the inclusion of oyster shells to ensure strong-shelled eggs.
They also get a daily treat of dried grubs to thank them for their eggs.
Warning — Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish, or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness, especially if you have certain medical conditions. All eggs should be thoroughly cooked and thoroughly washed before consumption.
